Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey (also known as James Eugene Carrey) is a Canadian-American screen star celebrated for elastic physical comedy and fearless character work. Born January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, he built his reputation through stand-up and early film parts before finding a national platform on Fox’s sketch series In Living Color.

That exposure ignited one of the biggest comedy breakouts of the 1990s. Carrey headlined a run of box-office hits including The Mask (as Stanley Ipkiss / The Mask) and Batman Forever (as Edward Nygma / The Riddler), then cemented his leading-man status with crowd-pleasers like Liar Liar (as Fletcher Reede), Bruce Almighty (as Bruce Nolan) and Yes Man (as Carl Allen).

Beyond slapstick, Carrey earned major critical recognition for dramatic turns. He won Golden Globes for The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, and drew acclaim for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (as Joel Barish), a performance that also brought top awards attention. In recent years, he has worked more selectively, including a notable return to TV with Kidding.
