Joanne Froggatt

Joanne Froggatt (also credited as Джоанн Фроггатт and جوآن فروگات) is an English screen actress born on August 23, 1980, in Littlebeck, North Yorkshire. Raised near Whitby after her parents moved from running a corner shop to a smallholding, she has described her rural upbringing as the kind of dramatic landscape you’d expect from classic Yorkshire literature.

Froggatt pursued acting early, joining a Scarborough drama group before leaving home at 13 to train at Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead. She made her television debut in The Bill and quickly became widely known as Zoe Tattersall in Coronation Street. She later appeared in Bad Girls and took on acclaimed TV-film roles including Danielle Cable: Eyewitness and Joanne Lees: Murder in the Outback.

Her international breakthrough came as Anna Bates in ITV’s Downton Abbey (2010–2015), earning multiple Emmy nominations and a 2014 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. She then led the thriller series Liar as Laura Nielson and continued expanding her film work with titles such as In Our Name, Filth, uwantme2killhim?, and Still Life, alongside later TV work including Last Light.
