Joe Stillman
Joe Stillman is an American screen artist best known for writing across both television and feature films. Working as a writer, producer, and director, he has helped shape mainstream comedy and family entertainment, earning wide recognition for his contributions to major studio projects.
Stillman’s film work includes high-profile titles such as Shrek and Shrek 2, along with family favorites like Curious George. His credits also extend to adventure-driven adaptations including The Lightning Thief and Gulliver’s Travels, reflecting a career built on accessible humor, character-driven storytelling, and big-screen spectacle.
Before establishing himself in movies, Stillman cut his teeth in television comedy, writing for influential animated and youth-oriented series such as Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, Doug, and The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Those early rooms helped define his comedic voice and pacing.
He began working in features with early projects including Home Movies (1980) and Creepshow (1982). More recently, he completed Planet 51 for directors Jorge Blanco, Javier Abad, and Marcos Martínez, and has been associated with the in-development project Alien Zoo.
