Joe Taslim

Joe Taslim (also credited as Johannes Taslim; 조 타슬림; جو تسلیم) is an Indonesian screen actor and martial artist, born June 23, 1981, in Palembang, South Sumatra. Of Chinese-Indonesian heritage, he’s recognized for bringing elite fight discipline and grounded intensity to action roles across Indonesian and international productions.

Before acting, Taslim built a serious competitive career in judo. After training in multiple martial arts in his youth—including wushu, taekwondo, and pencak silat—he ultimately committed to judo and represented Indonesia on the national team from 1997 to 2009. His run included major domestic and regional results, highlighted by gold at Indonesia’s 2008 National Sports Week and silver at the 2007 SEA Games.

He broke through on screen as Sergeant Jaka in The Raid, a modern action landmark that introduced him to global audiences. That momentum carried into his first major international feature role as Jah in Fast & Furious 6, expanding his profile beyond Indonesia.

Taslim has since balanced franchise work and hard-hitting genre films, including Star Trek Beyond (Manas), The Night Comes for Us (Ito), and Mortal Kombat II as Bi-Han. With a fighter’s precision and a performer’s restraint, he remains one of Indonesia’s most visible action stars worldwide.
