John C. McGinley
John C. McGinley (also credited as John McGinley) is an American screen actor born on August 3, 1959, in New York City. Known for playing sharp-edged, high-intensity figures with surprising humanity, he has built a career that moves easily between mainstream hits, dark thrillers, and character-driven comedy.
He is best known to global audiences as Dr. Perry Cox on the long-running TV series Scrubs (2001–2010), a role that made him a fan favorite for balancing rapid-fire sarcasm with emotional weight. The performance highlighted McGinley’s knack for switching gears mid-scene—landing jokes while still grounding the character’s compassion.
On film, McGinley has left memorable marks in titles such as Point Break (as SAIC Ben Harp), Office Space (as Bob Slydell), Se7en (as California), Identity (as George), Wall Street (as Marvin), Talk Radio (as Stu), Get Carter (as Con McCarty), and Are We Done Yet? (as Chuck Mitchell, Jr.). He also became a familiar presence in Oliver Stone’s cinema, including Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July.
Beyond the camera, McGinley has performed on Broadway and has expanded into writing and producing, including co-writing and producing Colin Fitz Lives! and serving as an executive producer on Scrubs.
