John Logan

John Logan (also credited as John David Logan; Arabic: جون ديفيد لوغان) is an American screenwriter, playwright, and producer born on September 24, 1961, in San Diego, California. Celebrated for sharp character work and large-scale storytelling, Logan has become one of Hollywood’s most influential writing voices across prestige drama, musical adaptation, and blockbuster action.

He is widely known for scripting major films for top directors, including Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator (2004) and Hugo (2011), and Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). Logan also helped shape the modern James Bond era, writing Sam Mendes’ Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015).

Across stage and screen, Logan’s work has earned major industry recognition, including three Academy Award nominations, plus wins such as a Tony Award and a Golden Globe. His career reflects a rare ability to move between intimate human drama and iconic franchise spectacle.

In addition to his writing credits, Logan has appeared as himself in documentary and behind-the-scenes projects, including Shoot the Moon: The Making of 'Hugo', Rothko: Pictures Must Be Miraculous, and Hammer: Heroes, Legends and Monsters, highlighting his ongoing presence in film culture.
