John Ross Bowie

John Ross Bowie (born May 30, 1971, in New York City) is an American actor and comedian whose career spans studio sitcoms, indie films, and commercial work. Many viewers recognize him for his scene-stealing presence on television, including a standout run as Barry Kripke on The Big Bang Theory.

On the film side, Bowie is noted for playing Elliot in the cult-favorite What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? and its follow-up What the Bleep! Down the Rabbit Hole, and he has continued to pop up in character-driven projects such as Between Us and Life of the Party. His screen work is complemented by frequent guest turns across popular series, showcasing a knack for sharp timing and offbeat authority figures.

Beyond scripted roles, Bowie has built a parallel profile through national advertising, including campaigns for Target (as “Ben E. Fitz”), Progressive, and a run of Ford commercials that began in 2011. He’s also a longtime sketch performer with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and Los Angeles, where he worked with the group The Naked Babies and later appeared in Rob Corddry’s Childrens Hospital.

Before acting became his primary lane, Bowie also spent time in music as a member of the New York pop-punk band EGGHEAD—an early chapter that echoes the energetic, comedic edge he brings to the screen.
