John Tui

John Tui (born June 11, 1975, in Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand screen artist known for bringing physical presence and grounded emotion to blockbuster franchises and local hits alike. With a career spanning live-action and voice performance, he has become a familiar face to international audiences while remaining closely tied to Pacific and Kiwi storytelling.

Tui gained early recognition with genre favorites, including Power Rangers Mystic Force: Dark Wish as the heroic Daggeron. He later stepped into major studio productions such as Battleship, playing Chief Petty Officer Walter “The Beast” Lynch, and Solo: A Star Wars Story as Korso, showcasing a tough, charismatic screen energy.

His versatility extends to creature work and family animation. In The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies he portrayed the imposing Bolg, while Disney’s Moana introduced him to a new generation as the voice of Chief Tui. He also starred in New Zealand features like Born to Dance and Savage, adding depth to contemporary local cinema.
