Jon Hurwitz
Jon Hurwitz (born November 15, 1977, in Byram, New Jersey) is an American screen artist best known for writing crowd-pleasing studio comedies. A Randolph High School alumnus, he later studied finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School—an unlikely launchpad for a Hollywood career that soon became his full-time focus.
Hurwitz’s breakthrough came through his long-running creative partnership with Hayden Schlossberg, a friendship that began in high school. While still in college, the duo sold their first screenplay, Filthy, to MGM—momentum that prompted a move to Los Angeles and set the tone for a collaborative career built on sharp character comedy and big franchise energy.
Together they co-wrote Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and later expanded the series with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which Hurwitz also co-directed. He has remained connected to fan-favorite properties, including work tied to the American Pie universe, reflecting his knack for updating nostalgia-driven brands for new audiences.
On screen, Hurwitz occasionally pops up in uncredited or self appearances—ranging from small roles in the Harold & Kumar films to credits like Reunited Apart and Cobra Kai: Inside the Dojo—a playful footnote to a career defined primarily by writing.
