Josh Malerman

Josh Malerman is an American screen and story artist best known for his work as a writer, with a career that spans novels, short fiction, and film production. He has also built a parallel creative life in music as one of the two singer-songwriters for the rock band The High Strung, bringing a rhythmic, performance-driven sensibility to his storytelling.

Malerman rose to wide recognition through his dark, suspenseful approach to horror and speculative fiction, particularly with the post-apocalyptic novel Bird Box (2014). The book’s chilling premise and tightly controlled tension helped it become a modern genre touchstone, later adapted into the Netflix feature film Bird Box, which introduced his world to an even broader global audience.

Expanding his footprint behind the scenes, he co-founded the production company Spin a Black Yarn in 2020 with manager Ryan Lewis, signaling a deeper commitment to developing screen projects alongside his writing. Among his on-screen appearances, he is credited as himself in To All the Books.
