Josh O'Connor
Josh O’Connor (also credited as Joshua O’Connor and Joshua Mathias O’Connor) is an English actor born on May 20, 1990, in Southampton, Hampshire. Trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, he built his craft through stage work before moving steadily into television and film.
Early screen roles included appearances in Doctor Who (2013) and Peaky Blinders (2014), where he began to stand out for his naturalistic intensity. His major breakthrough arrived with the lead in Francis Lee’s romantic drama God’s Own Country (2017), earning him a British Independent Film Award and wider international attention.
O’Connor’s global profile surged when he portrayed a young Prince Charles in Netflix’s The Crown (2019–2020), a performance that brought him both a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe. Since then, he has balanced prestige period pieces with bold contemporary projects, including Emma, La Chimera (as Arthur), and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers (as Patrick Zweig).
His recent and upcoming credits continue that range, from Lee (as Antony Penrose) and The History of Sound (as David) to Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (as Fr. Jud Duplenticy).
