Kevin James
Kevin James (born April 26, 1965, in Mineola, New York) is an American screen artist known for blending everyman warmth with big physical comedy. Born Kevin George Knipfing, he first built his reputation on Long Island’s stand-up circuit in the late 1980s, sharpening the relatable humor that would define his on-screen persona.
His major breakthrough came on television as Doug Heffernan in the long-running CBS sitcom The King of Queens (1998–2007). The role turned James into a household name and earned him an Emmy nomination in 2006, cementing his status as a dependable lead in mainstream comedy.
James soon expanded into film, debuting on the big screen with 50 First Dates before landing a memorable supporting turn in Hitch as Albert. He followed with starring vehicles such as I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Larry Valentine) and Paul Blart: Mall Cop (Paul Blart), while also taking on character work in titles like Grilled (Dave) and The Dilemma (Nick Brannen).
Alongside live-action success, James became a familiar voice in animation, including Monster House (Officer Landers) and Barnyard (Otis). Whether headlining stand-up specials like Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff or anchoring studio comedies, he remains a recognizable figure in modern American entertainment.
