Kim Coates

Kim Coates (born February 21, 1958, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a Canadian screen actor known for moving seamlessly between Canadian and U.S. film and television. Over a long-running career, he has built a reputation for intense, character-driven performances across drama, action, and thriller projects.

Beyond the camera, Coates has also made a mark on the stage. He has taken on iconic roles in major productions, including Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway, and the title role in Macbeth at Canada’s renowned Stratford Festival—credits that underline his classical range and theatrical discipline.

Many viewers recognize him best for his breakout television role as Alex “Tig” Trager, the hard-edged sergeant-at-arms on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. His work in film includes standout appearances in Black Hawk Down, Silent Hill, Open Range, The Client, Battlefield Earth, Unstoppable, and The Last Boy Scout.

Internationally, he is also credited under alternate names such as Κιμ Κόουτς, 킴 코티스, and کیم کوتس, reflecting his global audience and broad recognition.
