Koo Kyo-hwan
Koo Kyo-hwan (also credited as Koo Kyohwan or Koo Gyo-hwan; Korean: 구교환) is a South Korean screen artist born on December 14, 1982, in Seoul. Best known for acting, he has also worked behind the camera as a director, writer, producer, editor, and costume designer, building a reputation for distinctive, character-driven performances.
A graduate of the Seoul Institute of the Arts, Koo began his on-screen career with the 2009 romantic comedy Castaway on the Moon. His profile rose quickly in Korean independent cinema, and he earned major recognition at the Busan International Film Festival, winning “Actor of the Year” in 2016 for his work in Beaten Black and Blue.
In 2017, he collected “Best New Actor” honors from both the Busan Film Critics Awards and the Buil Film Awards for Jane, while also receiving a Chunsa Film Art Award for Beaten Black and Blue. The momentum continued with a Baeksang Arts Award win in 2018 for “Best New Actor – Film” for Jane.
Among his notable credits are Seoul Life, Just Before They Died, Dance From Afar, and the Netflix hit Kill Boksoon, alongside titles like Escape and New Generation War: Reawakened Man. He is represented as an actor by Namoo Actors.
