Kurt Russell

Kurt Russell (born March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts) is an American screen actor whose career spans classic TV, studio-era family films, and iconic genre cinema. He began performing as a child, landing early attention on the Western series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters in the 1960s.

In his teens, Russell became a key face for Disney under a long-term contract, headlining crowd-pleasers like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and the Dexter Riley comedies. His breakthrough dramatic turn came as Elvis Presley in the TV film Elvis (1979), earning him an Emmy nomination and cementing his transition into adult leading roles.

Russell’s rugged charisma made him a defining anti-hero of the 1980s, especially in collaborations with director John Carpenter. He memorably played Snake Plissken in Escape from New York and R.J. MacReady in The Thing, performances that helped shape modern action and horror. He later reprised Snake in Escape from L.A..

Across decades, he has remained a reliable leading man and ensemble standout, with notable credits including Stargate (as Colonel Jonathan “Jack” O’Neil), Executive Decision, Breakdown, Vanilla Sky, and Poseidon (as Robert Ramsey).
