LisaGay Hamilton
LisaGay Hamilton (born March 25, 1964, in Los Angeles, California) is an American screen and stage actor whose work spans film, television, and theater. She is widely recognized for bringing intelligence and emotional precision to complex roles, building a career that moves fluidly between mainstream projects and acclaimed dramatic material.
On television, Hamilton became a familiar presence as attorney Rebecca Washington on ABC’s legal drama The Practice. In cinema, she earned major attention for her performance as the young Sethe in Jonathan Demme’s adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Beloved, a role frequently cited as a standout in her filmography.
Hamilton’s theatrical résumé is equally substantial, with notable turns in classics such as Measure for Measure (Isabella) and Henry IV, Parts I & II (Lady Hotspur), as well as productions including Athol Fugard’s Valley Song and The Ohio State Murders.
