Louis Garrel

Louis Garrel (born June 14, 1983, in Paris, France) is a French screen actor known for bringing a modern, introspective edge to European cinema. Working across drama and romance, he has built a reputation for emotionally precise performances and a distinctive on-screen presence.

Garrel gained international attention with his breakout role as Théo in The Dreamers, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. The film introduced him to global audiences and positioned him as one of the notable French actors of his generation.

He has also become closely associated with director Christophe Honoré, appearing in several of Honoré’s films and helping define their youthful, literary tone. Among his best-known credits are Love Songs (as Ismaël Bénoliel), In Paris (as Jonathan), and Regular Lovers (as François Dervieux), alongside roles in Making Plans for Lena, Actresses, Frontier of Dawn, and A Curtain Raiser.

Recognized internationally under variants of his name—including Луї Ґаррел, 루이 가렐, and لویی گرل—Garrel remains a familiar face in contemporary French film, balancing art-house credibility with wide audience appeal.
