Mads Mikkelsen

Mads Mikkelsen (also credited as Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen and Mads D. Mikkelsen) is a Danish screen actor born on November 22, 1965, in Østerbro, Copenhagen. Celebrated for his intensity and quiet charisma, he has become one of Denmark’s most recognizable performers, equally at home in gritty crime stories and darkly comic dramas.

He first broke through in Danish cinema with standout roles such as Tonny in Pusher and Pusher II, then built momentum with acclaimed films including Open Hearts (as Niels), The Green Butchers (as Svend), Flickering Lights (as Arne), Adam's Apples (as Ivan), and After the Wedding (as Jacob Pederson). He also appeared in Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself as Horst, further sharpening his international profile.

Global audiences soon took notice when he played Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, opening the door to major international productions. He later earned widespread praise for leading roles in Danish prestige cinema, while continuing to move fluidly between European films and Hollywood franchises.

Beyond movies, Mikkelsen became a pop-culture fixture as Hannibal Lecter in the TV series Hannibal, proving his range across formats. Today, he remains a defining face of modern Danish cinema and a sought-after actor worldwide.
