Mandy Patinkin

Mandy Patinkin (born November 30, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American actor and singer whose career spans Broadway, television, and film. Celebrated for his expressive performances and musicality, he has earned major industry recognition, including a Tony Award and a Primetime Emmy, alongside multiple nominations across theatre and screen.

Patinkin first drew wide attention on stage in the 1970s and became a defining presence in modern musical theatre. He won a Tony for originating Che in the first Broadway run of Evita, and later earned further acclaim for roles in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and productions such as The Secret Garden and Falsettos, showcasing a rare blend of dramatic depth and vocal precision.

On television, he became a household name through leading roles including Dr. Jeffrey Geiger on Chicago Hope (earning an Emmy), profiler Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds, and intelligence veteran Saul Berenson on Homeland. His later work includes mystery series appearances such as Death and Other Details.

Film audiences know Patinkin for iconic turns like Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride and Avigdor in Yentl, as well as notable credits including Ragtime, True Colors, and Alien Nation. Whether on stage or screen, Patinkin remains synonymous with character-driven storytelling.
