Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (born November 28, 1984, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina) is an American screen actor and singer known for bringing sharp intelligence and emotional clarity to both studio franchises and indie favorites. She first broke through with high-profile genre work, then steadily expanded into character-driven drama and prestige television.
On the big screen, Winstead has become a recognizable presence in modern pop cinema, including Live Free or Die Hard as Lucy McClane, The Ring Two, Death Proof, Sky High, Final Destination 3, Bobby, and Factory Girl. She later gained wider acclaim for standout roles such as Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Mary Todd Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Helena Bertinelli / Huntress in Birds of Prey.
Her television work is equally notable, with key parts including Nikki Swango on FX’s Fargo, as well as roles on BrainDead, Mercy Street, and A Gentleman in Moscow. Behind the camera, she also produced and starred in the thriller Faults.
Winstead was previously married to filmmaker Riley Stearns; the pair separated in 2017. She later partnered with actor Ewan McGregor, whom she met while working on Fargo; they welcomed a son in 2021 and married in 2022.
