Matt Reeves

Matt Reeves (also credited as Matthew George Reeves) is an American director, screenwriter, and producer born April 27, 1966, in Rockville Center, New York. Drawn to filmmaking from childhood, he started shooting homemade movies at a young age, turning early curiosity into a lifelong craft.

As a teenager, Reeves formed a key creative friendship with filmmaker J.J. Abrams, collaborating on short projects and gaining unusual early industry exposure when their work led to a job transferring Super 8 footage for Steven Spielberg. He first broke into Hollywood as a screenwriter in the mid-1990s, then stepped behind the camera for his feature debut The Pallbearer.

Reeves expanded his profile in television as a director and co-creator of the acclaimed drama series Felicity (with Abrams), before returning to features with the found-footage hit Cloverfield and the atmospheric remake Let Me In. He later steered blockbuster sci-fi with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

In 2017, Warner Bros. tapped Reeves to direct DC’s The Batman (2022), starring Robert Pattinson—cementing his reputation for character-driven spectacle. He has also appeared as himself in multiple film and TV documentaries and specials.
