May Calamawy

May Calamawy (also credited as May El Calamawy; Arabic: مي القلماوي) is an Egyptian-Palestinian screen actress, born on October 28, 1986. Working across film and television, she has built a reputation for grounded, emotionally direct performances that travel well with international audiences.

She became widely recognized through her role as Dena Hassan in Hulu’s acclaimed series Ramy, where her work helped broaden the show’s portrait of contemporary Arab-American life. Calamawy then reached a global Marvel audience with her appearance in Disney+’s Moon Knight, and later featured as herself in Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Moon Knight.

Beyond these headline projects, Calamawy’s credits reflect a range of tones and formats, from the drama Santa Claus in Baghdad to films such as A Genie Called Gin and Passerby. She has also taken on multi-character work in The Actor, underscoring her versatility and willingness to experiment.

Known under several names in different markets—including 메이 칼라마위—Calamawy continues to expand her profile with roles that connect mainstream storytelling and culturally specific perspectives.
