Michael Ironside
Michael Ironside (born February 12, 1950, in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian screen actor celebrated for intense, commanding performances across film and television. Also credited as Frederick Reginald Ironside, he has expanded his career beyond acting into voice work, producing, directing, and screenwriting in both Canadian and American productions.
Ironside first drew major attention in the early 1980s with unsettling villain roles, notably the lethal psychic Darryl Revok in David Cronenberg’s Scanners (1981), followed by another chilling turn in Visiting Hours (1982). That early run helped cement his reputation for playing formidable antagonists and hard-edged authority figures.
Over the decades, he became a familiar presence in popular cinema, including Top Gun as Jester, Total Recall as Richter, and Starship Troopers as Lieutenant Jean Rasczak. His filmography also includes The Perfect Storm, Free Willy, The Machinist, and Terminator Salvation as General Ashdown, showcasing range from military grit to dramatic character work.
In recent years, Ironside has continued to add notable credits, appearing in Nobody (2021) and BlackBerry (2023), reaffirming his enduring status as a distinctive, scene-stealing performer.
