Michael Sheen
Michael Sheen (also credited as Michael Christopher Sheen) is a Welsh screen and stage actor, born on 5 February 1969 in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. Trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he built his reputation in the 1990s as a formidable theatre performer, earning major attention for classical and contemporary roles and collecting multiple Olivier Award nominations for acclaimed stage work.
Sheen’s screen profile rose sharply in the 2000s, particularly through prestige biographical dramas. He became widely associated with his nuanced portrayals of British political figures—most notably Tony Blair—across several productions, including The Queen, a performance that helped cement him as a go-to actor for real-life characters.
Alongside awards-season fare, Sheen has shown blockbuster range, playing Lucian in the Underworld films, appearing in Blood Diamond and Kingdom of Heaven, and bringing flamboyant energy to TRON: Legacy as Castor/Zuse. His voice work also includes Animated Epics: Beowulf.
Beyond acting, Sheen is known for public-facing activism and for taking on ambitious creative projects, including work with National Theatre Wales. Across film, television, and theatre, his career is defined by versatility, intensity, and a distinctive ability to disappear into character.
