Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh (also credited early as Michelle Khan) is a Malaysian screen icon born on August 6, 1962, in Ipoh, Perak. Over a career spanning more than four decades, she has moved effortlessly between Hong Kong action cinema and global studio productions, earning top industry honors including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.
Yeoh first became a star in 1980s–90s martial-arts and action films, celebrated for her athletic presence and hands-on approach to stunt work. That reputation carried into landmark roles such as Captain Jessica Yang in Police Story 3: Super Cop and Snow in Tai-Chi Master, establishing her as one of the genre’s defining performers.
International audiences embraced her as Bond ally Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies, and she reached new heights as Yu Shu Lien in Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In Hollywood, she expanded her range with parts in Sunshine (Corazon) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Zi Yuan), while continuing to headline Asian productions such as Far North and The Touch.
In 2022, Yeoh made history with her Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, becoming the first Asian Best Actress winner and the first Malaysian Academy Award recipient. Frequently cited among the most influential and celebrated action heroines, she remains a vital force in contemporary film.
