Nancy Meyers
Nancy Meyers (also credited as Nancy Jane Meyers and Patricia Irving) is an American screenwriter, producer, and director born on December 8, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Celebrated for smart, character-driven mainstream comedies, she has helped define the modern romantic comedy with scripts that balance wit, warmth, and adult perspective.
Meyers first gained major industry recognition with Private Benjamin (1980), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Her hit Baby Boom (1987) also drew awards attention, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, underscoring her knack for stories that connect with both critics and audiences.
She co-wrote the beloved Father of the Bride (1991) and Father of the Bride Part II (1995), then became a signature auteur by writing and directing crowd-pleasers such as The Parent Trap (1998), What Women Want (2000), Something’s Gotta Give (2003), The Holiday (2006), It’s Complicated (2009), and The Intern (2015).
Meyers was married to filmmaker Charles Shyer, and they have two children, including filmmaker Hallie Meyers-Shyer—extending her creative legacy to a new generation.
