Peter Dennis
Peter Dennis (also credited as Peter John Dennis) was an English screen and stage actor whose career moved fluidly between Britain and the United States. Born on October 25, 1933, in Dorking, Surrey, he became known for a versatile presence in film, television, theatre, and voice work, earning both a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Drama-Logue Award along the way.
Dennis built a reputation as a dependable character performer, appearing in productions that ranged from classic British television such as The Avengers to later American features including Sideways, where he played Leslie Brough. His filmography also includes roles in The Great Escape II: The Untold Story (Group Capt. Massey), Confessions of a Window Cleaner (Waiter), Scandalous (Maitre D'), and Man in the Chair (Bernie).
He was equally valued for his vocal and comedic skill, contributing to animated and family titles like Shrek as an Ogre Hunter (voice), as well as Prehysteria! 3 and Monster Safari. Yet his most enduring legacy may be theatrical: for over three decades he toured a celebrated one-man show, Bother! The Brain of Pooh, bringing A. A. Milne’s world to the stage with warmth and precision.
Peter Dennis died on April 18, 2009, leaving behind a body of work defined by craft, range, and a rare ability to make supporting roles unforgettable.
