Peter Farrelly

Peter Farrelly (also credited as Peter John Farrelly) is an American director, screenwriter, producer, and novelist, born December 17, 1956, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He rose to prominence as one half of the Farrelly brothers, a filmmaking duo celebrated for mixing offbeat humor with surprisingly tender romance.

Working closely with his brother Bobby, Farrelly helped shape a run of modern comedy staples, including Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself and Irene, Shallow Hal, and the remake of The Heartbreak Kid. Their films became known for bold, character-driven laughs that still leave room for warmth and heart.

Farrelly later stepped out on his own with the comedy-drama Green Book (2018), which he co-wrote and directed. The film became an awards-season powerhouse, earning the Toronto International Film Festival Audience Award, a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay, and Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Beyond narrative features, Farrelly has also appeared as himself in a range of film and TV projects, from interview and anniversary specials to documentary-style appearances, reflecting his long-standing presence in American screen comedy.
