Rick Moranis

Rick Moranis (born April 18, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian screen artist celebrated for his sharp comedic timing, inventive character work, and a career that spans acting, writing, producing, and music. Also known as Frederick Allan Moranis, he became a defining comic presence of the 1980s and 1990s.

Moranis first gained major attention on the influential sketch series SCTV, then transitioned into a run of popular Hollywood films. He’s widely recognized as Louis Tully in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, Dark Helmet in Spaceballs, and Seymour Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors. His other notable roles include Nathan Huffner in Parenthood and Barney Rubble in The Flintstones.

In the late 1990s, Moranis stepped away from on-camera work to focus on raising his children after becoming a widower, resulting in a decades-long absence from live-action features. During that period, he still contributed creatively through voice roles, including Rutt in Disney’s Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2, and through comedy music projects and fan appearances.

In 2020, he was announced to return as Wayne Szalinski for Shrunk, a new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel, though the project was later paused—keeping Moranis’ legacy as a singular, beloved comic actor firmly intact.
