Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry (born 24 August 1957, Hampstead, London) is an English screen artist celebrated for his distinctive wit, warm authority, and range across film and television. Known internationally for acting, he has also built a parallel reputation as a writer and presenter, making him one of Britain’s most recognizable cultural voices.

Fry first gained major attention through the Cambridge Footlights revue The Cellar Tapes, alongside future stars including Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson. His partnership with Laurie became a defining comedy double act, co-writing and starring in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and taking on the iconic leads in Jeeves and Wooster.

On screen, Fry has moved easily between sharp comedy and dramatic character work. Notable credits include Wilde as Oscar Wilde, Gosford Park as Inspector Thompson, V for Vendetta as Deitrich, and A Fish Called Wanda as Hutchison, as well as roles in St Trinian’s and The Discovery of Heaven. He is also widely associated with British television through appearances in series such as Blackadder and as the long-running host of the quiz show QI.

Beyond acting, Fry is a prolific author and broadcaster, writing novels and memoirs and frequently contributing to radio and journalism. He is also renowned for audiobook narration, including reading all seven Harry Potter novels, further cementing his status as a singular voice in modern entertainment.
