Steve Carell

Steve Carell (born August 16, 1962, in Concord, Massachusetts) is an American screen actor and comedian celebrated for turning everyday awkwardness into unforgettable character work. Widely associated with NBC’s The Office, he played Michael Scott from 2005 to 2011 and also contributed behind the camera as a writer, producer, and director, earning major industry recognition including a Golden Globe.

Before becoming a household name, Carell sharpened his satirical edge as a correspondent on The Daily Show (1999–2005). He soon became a defining face of 2000s studio comedy, headlining and scene-stealing in films such as The 40 Year Old Virgin, Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty (as Evan Baxter), plus Dan in Real Life and Knocked Up (uncredited). He also built a parallel career in animation, voicing Hammy in Over the Hedge and Gru in Despicable Me.

In the 2010s, Carell expanded into prestige drama without losing his comedic timing, earning awards attention for Foxcatcher and delivering acclaimed turns in Little Miss Sunshine (as Frank Ginsberg), The Big Short, and Battle of the Sexes. On TV, he later returned in high-profile roles including Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and Netflix’s Space Force, underscoring a career defined by range and reinvention.
