Steven Conrad
Steven Conrad (also credited as Steve Conrad) is an American screenwriter, producer, and director born on May 20, 1968, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The brother of actor Chris Conrad, he has built a career defined by offbeat humor, sharp character work, and a willingness to move between film and television. Conrad is based in Chicago.
After studying at Northwestern, Conrad broke in remarkably early: at 19 he sold his first screenplay, Wrestling Ernest Hemingway, drawn from a short story he originally wrote for a creative writing class. He later returned to filmmaking with Lawrence Melm, which he wrote and directed, and continued with projects such as The Weather Man (also as producer) and the Oscar-winning crowd-pleaser The Pursuit of Happyness.
Conrad expanded his voice behind the camera with The Promotion, which he wrote, directed, and edited, debuting at SXSW in 2008. In 2013, he adapted a James Thurber story for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed by and starring Ben Stiller.
On TV, he created Amazon’s Patriot, serving as executive producer and directing and writing much of its first season. He followed with Perpetual Grace, LTD (Epix), the stop-motion series Ultra City Smiths (AMC+), and the HBO black-comedy miniseries DTF St. Louis.
