Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins (born August 10, 1962, in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American writer whose work spans television and bestselling fiction. She rose to global prominence for her sharp, suspenseful storytelling and her ability to frame big political questions through character-driven adventures.

Collins is most widely known for creating The Hunger Games, a landmark young-adult series that helped redefine modern dystopian fiction and introduced readers to the world of Panem. The books’ mix of survival drama, media spectacle, and moral stakes made them a cultural touchstone and a frequent point of reference in discussions of power and resistance.

Alongside her YA success, she also wrote the children’s fantasy series The Underland Chronicles, showcasing a different side of her imagination while maintaining her trademark momentum and emotional clarity. Her background in television writing informs the pace and visual immediacy that readers often associate with her novels.

Collins has appeared in documentary and bonus-feature projects connected to her work, including The World Is Watching: Making the Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Letters From The Rose Garden, credited as herself.
