Tadanobu Asano
Tadanobu Asano (born November 27, 1973, in Yokohama, Kanagawa) is a Japanese screen artist celebrated for fearless choices and a chameleonic presence across arthouse cinema and global blockbusters. Also credited as Tadanobu Satô (Tadanobu Sato; あさの ただのぶ), he has built a career defined by bold character work and genre-defying projects.
Asano first drew wide attention through provocative, high-voltage Japanese films, earning recognition for intense turns in titles such as Electric Dragon 80.000 V, Ichi the Killer, and Bright Future. His international profile grew with acclaimed performances in Last Life in the Universe (as Kenji) and Zatoichi (as Hattori Genosuke), showcasing a rare ability to balance restraint, menace, and vulnerability.
Equally at home in offbeat ensemble pieces and period drama, Asano’s notable credits include Taboo (Hyozo Tashiro), Hana (Jubei Kanazawa), Funky Forest: The First Contact (Masaru Tanaka), Party 7 (Okita Souji), and Away with Words (Asano Takashi). He also reached mainstream audiences worldwide as Hogun in Marvel’s Thor, confirming his status as a versatile actor with unmistakable screen magnetism.
