Ted Elliott

Ted Elliott (born July 4, 1961, in Santa Ana, California) is an American screenwriter best known for shaping modern blockbuster storytelling through long-running collaborations and franchise work. Writing primarily alongside Terry Rossio, Elliott helped craft a run of crowd-pleasing hits that defined studio filmmaking for a generation.

Across their partnership, Elliott’s credits include major titles such as Aladdin, Shrek, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series—films recognized for their blend of adventure, humor, and character-driven spectacle. His work has made him a familiar name to audiences even when his contributions happen behind the camera.

Beyond screenplays, Elliott has been active in the professional writing community. He served on the Writers Guild of America’s Board of Directors from 2004 to 2006 and later sought the presidency of WGA West in 2005. He also co-founded influential screenwriting resources, including Wordplay (Wordplayer.com) with Rossio, and co-runs The Artful Writer with fellow former board member Craig Mazin, offering guidance geared toward working screenwriters.
