Terry Notary
Terry Notary (also credited as Terrence Notary) is an American screen artist born on August 14, 1968, in San Rafael, California. Best known for acting through physical performance, he has built a distinctive career bringing non-human characters to life with precision, athleticism, and character-driven movement.
Working across acting, stunt work, and movement coaching, Notary is widely associated with creature and animal portrayals in film and television. He became a go-to performer for motion-capture and performance-capture roles, contributing to major franchises and effects-driven storytelling where body language and rhythm are as important as dialogue.
Among his notable credits are Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes as Rocket, plus creature work in titles like Attack the Block, The Cabin in the Woods, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. His range also extends to multi-character performances such as The Electric State, where he embodies several distinct on-screen entities.
Beyond these roles, Notary’s motion-capture résumé includes landmark productions like Avatar, The Adventures of Tintin, and Kong: Skull Island, and he appeared as Cull Obsidian in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
