Tim Hill
Tim Hill (also credited as Timothy Joseph Hill) is an American director and television writer born on May 31, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Known for crowd-pleasing family entertainment, Hill has moved fluidly between animation and live-action, shaping projects designed for broad, all-ages audiences.
He first gained industry attention in the early 1990s as a writer and storyboard artist on Rocko's Modern Life, where his comedic sensibility and visual storytelling helped define the show’s offbeat tone. He also created the Kablam! segment Action League Now!, a fan-favorite that showcased his knack for fast, character-driven comedy.
Since 1999, Hill has been an episode writer for SpongeBob SquarePants, contributing to one of the most influential animated series of its era. His directing career expanded into major studio family films, including Muppets from Space, Max Keeble's Big Move, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hop, and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends: The Movie. He also appears as himself in Alex to the Max: The Making of Max Keeble's Big Move.
Hill’s film lineage includes a notable connection: he is the nephew of acclaimed director George Roy Hill.
