Tim Minear

Tim Minear (also credited as Timothy P. Minear and Timothy Minear) is an American screenwriter born October 29, 1963, in New York City. Known for sharp genre storytelling and character-driven television, he built a reputation as a versatile writer and producer across sci-fi, superhero, and adventure series.

Minear expanded his profile in the late 1990s, joining The X-Files after a successful run as executive story editor on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. During that period he penned episodes including “Brutal Youth,” “’Twas the Night Before Mxymas,” “Meet John Doe,” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” blending humor, emotion, and high-concept plotting.

Earlier, he spent two seasons in New Zealand working on the syndicated hour drama High Tide, earning writing and co-producing credits. His additional television work includes serving as story editor on Aaron Spelling’s Robin’s Hoods and writing for The New Adventures of Zorro, as well as co-writing the political thriller The Infiltrator.

Minear studied film at California State University, Long Beach. He has also appeared as himself in fan and retrospective projects such as Browncoats Unite: Firefly 10th Anniversary Special and Done the Impossible, and contributed an uncredited voice role as “Muse” on Wonderfalls.
