Tony Hale
Tony Hale (also credited as Anthony Russell Hale and known in Korea as 토니 헤일) is an American actor and author born on September 30, 1970, in West Point, New York. Celebrated for his elastic comedic timing and empathetic character work, Hale has built a career around playing anxious, endearing outsiders who steal scenes with precision.
He became a breakout favorite as the tightly wound Byron “Buster” Bluth on the cult TV comedy Arrested Development. Hale later reached a new peak on HBO’s political satire Veep, portraying Gary Walsh, the perpetually put-upon aide to Selina Meyer—an acclaimed performance that earned him two Emmy Awards and cemented his status as a standout in modern television comedy.
On film, Hale has consistently brought sharp supporting turns to studio comedies and offbeat dramas. His notable credits include Stranger Than Fiction (Dave), The Informant! (James Epstein), RV (Frank), and Because I Said So (Stuart), as well as later work like Nine Days (Alexander) and Hocus Pocus 2 (Mayor / Reverend Traske).
Across TV and cinema, Hale’s signature blend of awkward sincerity and emotional clarity has made him a reliable scene partner and a memorable presence in ensemble casts.
