Tristan Barr

Tristan Barr is an Australian screen artist known for acting and for ambitious, craft-forward filmmaking. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, he has built a reputation as a visual storyteller who moves confidently between performance and behind-the-camera work.

He drew major attention with Watch the Sunset, recognized by Cinema Australia among the top five films of 2017. The 82-minute feature was notably executed as a single continuous take, staged across nine locations—an achievement that helped propel the film onto the festival circuit, including screenings in official programs at Perth Revelation International Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, Byron Bay Film Festival, Sydney Underground Film Festival, and later the Montreal World Film Festival. The project also earned multiple honors, including awards for Best Film and Best Actor.

Barr’s directing has continued to attract accolades, including a Best Director win at the Canada International Film Festival for This Little Piggy. He also wrote, directed, and produced the short Gabby’s First Time, which took home Best Comedy at the Sanctuary Cove Film Festival.

As an actor, his credits include Monster Pies (Mike), This Little Piggy (Shadow), Jacks (Spud), Beckoning the Butcher (Brent Wellborne), The Secret of Mount Trolla (Espen), Subject (Dalesky), and Dunny Derby: The Legend of Derek Dallas & The Underbogs (Max), alongside TV appearances such as ABC’s It’s A Date and Channel Nine’s Gallipoli.
