Vanessa Smythe
Vanessa Smythe (born March 25, 1982, in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian screen artist known for her work in acting and writing across film, television, and live performance. She gained wider attention for her role as Michio in The Expanse, and has continued to build a versatile career that moves comfortably between genre storytelling and character-driven drama.
On television, Smythe has appeared in popular Canadian series including Hudson & Rex and Murdoch Mysteries. Her film credits include Christmas Beneath the Stars (Gretta), The Amityville Curse (Debbie Klein), Signal One (Mother), Christmas Plus One (Amy), and Cradle to Grave (Alice, ages 25–42), along with titles such as Bath Salts and We Had It Coming.
Beyond the screen, Smythe is also recognized for inventive solo stage work: her one-person show In Case We Disappear has played to sold-out audiences internationally, and she has even performed new material while eight months pregnant. Her creativity extends into unusual corners of the arts world, from designing escape rooms in video stores to writing poetry for arts and sports campaigns.
She continues to expand her on-camera profile with upcoming projects including Littlemouth and Trap, the latter featuring her as a tour manager in a film directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
