Wash Westmoreland
Wash Westmoreland (born March 4, 1966, in Leeds, England) is a British screen artist best known for his work as a writer across television, documentary, and independent cinema. Often credited simply as Wash Westmoreland, he has also been known by the aliases Wash West, Bobby Dazzler, and Bud Light.
A defining thread in Westmoreland’s career is his long-running creative partnership with his husband, writer-director Richard Glatzer. Together they developed character-driven films that balanced intimate storytelling with broader social resonance, earning attention on the festival circuit and beyond.
Their adaptation of Lisa Genova’s bestselling novel Still Alice (2014) became their most widely recognized achievement, collecting major honors and helping lead to Julianne Moore’s Academy Award for Best Actress, while the pair also received a Humanitas Prize for their feature work. Earlier, their coming-of-age drama Quinceañera (2006) broke out at Sundance, winning both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize.
Westmoreland is also associated with Velvet Goldmine, where he is credited as “Young Man,” a notable early screen appearance that complements his reputation behind the scenes.
