Whip Hubley

Whip Hubley (born Grant Hubley Jr.; May 17, 1957) is an American screen actor from New York City, New York. Also credited as Grant Hubley and Grant “Whip” Hubley, he became widely recognizable in the mid-1980s for his confident, grounded style and an easy authority on camera.

Hubley’s breakout arrived with Top Gun (1986), where he played the pilot “Hollywood,” a role that helped cement his association with high-stakes, military-leaning stories. He followed with notable parts such as Mischa in Russkies (1987) and Baker in the thriller Executive Decision (1996), continuing to build a résumé defined by disciplined characters under pressure.

Beyond big studio titles, Hubley’s filmography stretches into genre and independent work, including Black Scorpion II: Aftershock (Michael Russo), Desire and Hell at Sunset Motel (Chester DeSoto), Fangs (Dr. John Winslow), and Heightened (Paul Peterson). He also appeared as Sir Lancelot in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, showing range outside contemporary action settings.
