Yayan Ruhian

Yayan Ruhian (born October 19, 1968, in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia) is an Indonesian screen artist and action performer best known for bringing authentic Pencak Silat to modern cinema. Before his film breakthrough, he built his reputation as a dedicated martial arts practitioner and professional instructor.

Rooted in Pencak Silat and related disciplines, Ruhian became widely respected for teaching an “inner breathing” conditioning method aimed at strengthening the body to endure heavy impact. In 1988, he began instructing at Perguruan Silat Tenaga Dasar Indonesia, a school associated with this technique, and his work took him to multiple cities across Indonesia as well as overseas.

That real-world expertise translated naturally to the screen, where his physical precision and intensity made him a standout in action roles. He gained international recognition as Mad Dog in The Raid and Eric in Merantau, later appearing in global productions including John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (Shinobi #2) and Boy Kills World (Shaman).

Ruhian’s credits also include Photocopier (Rama’s Father), Mat Kilau (Toga), The Original Gangster (Pablo), and POW!, underscoring a career that bridges Indonesian martial arts tradition with international action storytelling.
