Yeon Sang-ho

Yeon Sang-ho (연상호, 延尚昊; born January 1, 1978, in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean director and screenwriter known for sharp social storytelling across animation and live action. His work often blends genre thrills with pointed observations about modern life, helping broaden global interest in Korean cinema.

He first drew major attention with the animated features The King of Pigs (2011) and The Fake (2013), films praised for their uncompromising tone and adult themes. Yeon later made a high-profile leap to live action with Train to Busan (2016), a breakout hit that cemented his reputation for dynamic pacing and character-driven suspense.

Beyond directing, Yeon has occasionally appeared on screen and in voice roles, including credits connected to Seoul Station and The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow, and he has shown up as himself in talk and film programs such as Because I Want to Talk and Movie Room. He is also credited under the name Lee Chang-su for The Window.
