Anders Thomas Jensen

Anders Thomas Jensen (also credited as A.T. Jensen) is a Danish screenwriter and film director born on April 6, 1972, in Frederiksværk, Denmark. Known for his sharp blend of dark humor and human drama, he became one of the defining voices in modern Danish cinema, shaping both auteur-driven hits and mainstream successes.

Jensen first drew international attention through short films. His 1998 short Election Night earned the Academy Award, and he was also nominated in the live-action short category for Ernst & The Light (1996) and Wolfgang (1997). Those early accolades signaled a storyteller with a distinctive tone and precise command of character.

From the late 1990s into the 2000s, Jensen wrote screenplays for many of Denmark’s biggest films of the era, including Mifune’s Last Song (with Søren Kragh-Jacobsen), In China They Eat Dogs, Open Hearts, Stealing Rembrandt, and Brothers. He stepped into feature directing with the action-comedy Flickering Lights (2000), followed by The Green Butchers and Adam’s Apples.

In 2005, Jensen received the Nordisk Film Award. He has also appeared as himself in credits such as When Danish Film Crosses the Line, The Idiots Who Started The Party, and Dansk films bedste, alongside a guest role in Agent.
