Betty Gilpin
Betty Gilpin (born Elizabeth Folan Gilpin on July 21, 1986, in New York City) is an American screen actress celebrated for her elastic range across comedy, drama, and genre storytelling. Raised in a creative household—her father, Jack Gilpin, is also an actor—she gravitated early toward performance, sharpening her craft through training and stage work before moving steadily into television and film.
Gilpin’s breakout arrived with Netflix’s GLOW, where she played Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan. Set against the neon spectacle of 1980s women’s wrestling, the series gave her room to blend sharp humor with raw ambition and vulnerability—an approach that earned widespread critical attention and major award nominations.
Beyond GLOW, Gilpin has built a varied résumé, appearing on series such as Nurse Jackie, Law & Order: SVU, and Masters of Sex. Her film work includes roles in True Story (Cheryl), Isn’t It Romantic (Whitney), The Grudge (Nina Spencer), and credits like Take Care, Ghost Town, Future ’38, Death in Love, and The Northern Kingdom.
Known for emotionally precise performances and incisive comedic timing, Gilpin often brings complexity to characters who could easily read as archetypes. Off-screen, she has also spoken publicly about gender inequity in the industry and the need for broader, more inclusive storytelling.
