Colin Hanks
Colin Hanks (also credited as Colin Lewis Hanks) is an American actor and filmmaker born on November 24, 1977, in Sacramento, California. Over a career spanning film and television, he’s built a reputation for grounded, character-driven performances across comedy, drama, and crime storytelling.
He first drew wide attention with a key role on the sci‑fi series Roswell (1999–2001), then broke through on the big screen as Shaun Brumder in Orange County (2002). His film work expanded into studio fare and ensemble projects, including King Kong (as Preston), Untraceable (as Griffin Dowd), 11:14 (as Mark), and The House Bunny (as Oliver), along with turns in titles like Get Over It and W.
On television, Hanks earned major acclaim as Gus Grimly on FX’s Fargo (2014–2015), a performance that brought Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and Critics’ Choice nominations. He also led Fox’s The Good Guys, appeared on Dexter (earning a SAG nomination), and later headlined series such as Life in Pieces, The Offer, and A Friend of the Family. He’s also lent his voice to Talking Tom & Friends.
