Dan Gilroy

Dan Gilroy (also credited as Daniel Christopher Gilroy and known in Korean as 댄 길로이) is an American screen artist best known for writing, with a career that also spans directing. Born on June 24, 1959, in Santa Monica, California, he has built a reputation for sharp, character-driven storytelling in modern Hollywood.

Gilroy reached a major milestone with Nightcrawler (2014), which he both wrote and directed. The film earned him the Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay and brought an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, cementing his status as a distinctive voice in contemporary cinema.

Across the years, he has contributed scripts to a wide range of projects, including Freejack (1992), Two for the Money (2005), The Fall (2006), Real Steel (2011), and The Bourne Legacy (2012). On the latter, he collaborated with his brother, filmmaker Tony Gilroy.

Gilroy has also frequently partnered creatively with his wife, actor Rene Russo, whom he met in 1992 and married later that year. Beyond narrative features, he has appeared as himself in titles such as The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened? and is associated with credits like The Man Who Saw Too Much.
