Duncan Jones
Duncan Jones (also credited as Duncan Zowie Jones and known early on as Zowie Bowie) is a British director, producer, and screenwriter born on May 30, 1971, in Beckenham, London. He has built a reputation for intelligent, genre-driven filmmaking that blends human emotion with high-concept ideas.
Jones broke through with the acclaimed sci-fi drama Moon (2009), a debut that earned him the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer. He followed with the slick, twisty thriller Source Code (2011), confirming his skill for tension, structure, and character-focused spectacle.
Expanding into large-scale franchise territory, he directed the fantasy epic Warcraft (2016) and later returned to darker futuristic storytelling with Mute (2018). His screen credits also include an appearance-related listing in A Teacher as “Bartender.”
Jones is the son of legendary musician David Bowie and Angie Bowie, a Cypriot-born American model, actress, and journalist—background that often draws attention, though his career stands on its own distinctive voice and craft.
